The slavage corvette used to be a favorite of commanders on won. But with the latest strat's leaning towards fighter swarms. Salvage vets have been underused and out-paced by the faster fighters. This turn in the tables only gives us greater oppourtunities to lay traps. formations: You wont really have a problem with formations with salvage vettes as you usually wont have a group bigger than three. If you are grouping them with a cloak generator for a covert ops salvage team, X formation works well because usually the cloak will be the center of the X providing the biggest cloak coverage.

Salvage corvettes have the best fuel consumption for any corvette class ship. Also they have the best ratio of cost to damage in kamakazi attacks. so if you really wanna do some damage for not alot of cash. these are your boys.
Tactics: Salvage vettes have the potential to be one of the greatest units in the game. you not only damage your opponent, but you get a free unit. Its beautiful. If you are going up against a cap ship player. this makes your life beautiful. Cloaked vettes show up on his harvesting operation. and those cap ships will never be able to catch you in time. unless he is willing to jump. What you should have done though is right when you took his harvester, is sent some attack bombers to intercept and gaurd. This will make him think twice.
However, going up against a swarm player makes our life much more difficult. Even with the element of surprize that cloaked salvage vettes offer. they arent the quickest ships in the fleet and will soon be run down by interceptors or even scouts. You have a few options here. Option one. Build a grav well, assault frig combo. this is expensive and would take a long time to set up for stealing a few resource collectors. But probably one of the most effective. Option two is to create a diversion on the other side of the map. with some scouts. or something of that nature that will cause him to respond with his swarm. buying us some time. Option three is to have your own swarm meet his while he is chasing you back. However, this will often escalate into the final battle.
Different numbers of salvage vettes are needed for different craft. 2 - Frigates, Resource Collectors, Cloak Gens, Grav Wells 3 - Destroyers, Resource Controllers, Sensor Arrays 5 - Carriers, Heavy Cruisers Keep this in mind. however, it is unlikely you will ever find any cap ships alone. thats why in the heat of battle. Go in with a few more salvage corvettes than you need. (some might die) And grab a few ships. Dont go for primary targets like heavy cruisers and lone destroyers. He'll know you're going for them and target the vettes. If he only has 1 destroyer, go for ion cannon frigs. If he has a few. go ahead and pick one of the ones on the outside off. If he turns to target your salvage vettes. try to swing your main fleet behind his. this is where the weakest armor is. Also. your salvage vettes probably wont make it. best to scuttle them and damage his destroyer. Always remember to practice. Stealing resource Collectors and Controllers is a valuable skill. Go for Controllers if his harvestiing operation is far from his mother ship. and the Collectors if it is close. And dont worry about fuel burn. Salvage vettes have 22 minutes worth of fuel in them the second highest of all strike craft. Experiment, at only 440 RU's for 2. Take a few gambles. Enjoy-
